The Fourth Annual Ride for Skip, a challenging off road charity bike event, will take place September 10-13, 2008, and will follow the Great Allegheny Passage Trail and C&O Canal Towpath from McKeesport, PA, to Washington, DC. The event will be divided into five rides to accommodate the abilities of all of the participants:
- The four-day 320-mile ride will begin in McKeesport, PA and end in Georgetown in Washington, DC. The first ride will cover 62 miles on the Great Allegheny Passage Trail to Ohiopyle, PA. The second-day ride will start in Ohiopyle, PA, on Thursday, September 11. The second ride will cover 73 miles on the Great Allegheny Passage Trail to Cumberland, MD. The third day of this ride will start in Cumberland, MD, and cover 100 miles on the C&O Canal Towpath. The fourth day will start at mile 85 on the C&O Canal Towpath and will finish in Georgetown in Washington, DC.
- A two-day 184-mile ride will start in Cumberland, MD. The first day of the leg will be 100 miles. On day two, riders will start at the 85-mile post. Riders will be joined at Harpers Ferry, WV, by riders participating in the 60-mile challenge ride.
- The one-day 100-mile ride will begin in Williamsport, MD at the 100-mile marker on the C&O Canal Towpath on Saturday, September 13.
- The one-day 60-mile ride will start in Harpers Ferry, WV
- The family fun ride will be held on September 13 at Fletcher’s Boat House in Georgetown (The family fun ride will cost $20 per person—or $50 for a family—and all proceeds will go to The Skip Viragh Charities.)
Each participant must raise $1,000 in donations for Skip Viragh Charities plus expenses. Participants who wish to take part in the multi-day ride or the one-day 100-mile ride must be able to complete a 50-mile ride a month before the schedule ride. Riders participating in the 1 day 60 mile ride will only be required to donate $100 to the Skip Viragh Charities.
